Creating a four-digit door code isn’t difficult.
Creating the right code for every reservation, making sure it works at check-in, sending it to the right guest and removing access after checkout is where short-term rental hosting gets tedious.
Hospitable can automate that process.
The property-management platform connects reservations with compatible smart locks, then handles the access-code workflow around each stay. Instead of jumping between a booking platform, messaging system and lock app, the process becomes much closer to:
Reservation → access code → guest message → expiration
That can be particularly useful for hosts managing reservations across Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and direct bookings rather than relying on a single channel.
There is a catch. Hospitable's smart-lock integration is not included with its free Essentials plan or $29 Host plan. For new customers choosing a current plan, Professional is the real starting point for built-in smart-lock automation at $59 per month on month-to-month billing.
For a host with one property and a handful of bookings, that may be more software than necessary. Once creating and managing guest codes starts becoming recurring operational work, the calculation changes.
Quick Verdict

Hospitable can connect reservations to compatible smart locks, automatically create guest access codes, send them to guests, and expire them after checkout.
What Does Hospitable Smart-Lock Integration Actually Do?
The biggest reason to use Hospitable with a smart lock is not remote locking and unlocking. Your lock's own app can already handle much of that.
The value is connecting access directly to the reservation.
1. The guest books
Hospitable receives the reservation from a connected booking channel.
That can include Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and other reservations being managed through Hospitable.
2. Hospitable creates an access code
For a compatible connected smart lock, Hospitable generates a unique reservation code.
Hosts can configure codes as random numbers or, where supported, base them on digits from the guest's phone number.
3. Access follows the reservation
By default, the guest code becomes active at check-in and deactivates at checkout.
Hospitable also allows hosts to add timing buffers. For example, access could begin shortly before the official check-in time or remain active briefly after checkout when there is a legitimate reason to do so.
Once the code expires, Hospitable removes it from the lock.
4. The guest receives the code
The access code appears within the guest conversation in Hospitable and can be inserted into automated guest messages.
That removes another manual step: looking up the reservation, opening the smart-lock app, finding the code and copying it into a message.
5. Access ends after the stay
The code isn't left active indefinitely.
That matters more as reservation volume increases. Temporary access should follow the stay rather than depend on someone remembering to clean up old codes later.
This is where Hospitable's smart-lock integration becomes useful. It turns several small hosting tasks into one automated workflow.
Which Smart Locks Work With Hospitable?
Hospitable supports a fairly broad collection of smart-lock brands and platforms, including:
Schlage
Yale
August
SmartThings-connected locks
Kwikset
Nuki
Igloohome
TTLock-compatible locks
KeyNest
additional supported integrations
There is an important distinction:
Brand compatibility does not mean every lock made by that brand is supported.
The specific model, connection method, keypad and manufacturer app can all matter.
For example, some locks require a Wi-Fi bridge or hub. August locks generally need a compatible keypad. Nuki has its own requirements. Locks connected through SmartThings need to be models Hospitable can control through that platform.
If you are buying a lock specifically to use with Hospitable, check the exact model before ordering it.

Important: Schlage Arrive Does Not Work With Hospitable
This is an unusually important compatibility difference for Schlage buyers.
The Schlage Arrive WiFi Deadbolt is not supported by Hospitable's smart-lock integration.
Hospitable currently lists supported Schlage options including:
Schlage Encode Smart WiFi Deadbolt
Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt
Schlage Encode Smart WiFi Lever
certain Schlage Connect models through SmartThings
That means the cheaper Schlage isn't necessarily the better buy for a short-term rental.
If you're choosing a Schlage specifically for a short-term rental, our Schlage Arrive vs. Encode comparison matters here: Arrive may cost less, but Encode is the model that works with Hospitable.
This is also a good example of why smart-lock compatibility should be checked against the software a property will actually use, not just Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home.
Hospitable and Airbnb: Don't Connect the Lock Twice
If Hospitable will manage your guest codes, do not also connect the same smart lock directly to Airbnb's code-generating integration.
Hospitable specifically warns against this.
When two services can create codes on the same lock, you can end up with:
conflicting access codes
synchronization errors
failed code creation
guest access problems
The cleaner setup is to choose one system to manage reservation access.
If Hospitable is that system, remove the direct smart-lock connection from Airbnb and let Hospitable generate the reservation codes.
That also gives Hospitable an important advantage for multi-channel hosts: the access workflow is not limited to Airbnb reservations.
Our guide to Airbnb smart-lock guest codes explains the access-code workflow in more detail before adding a property-management platform.
What Happens If a Guest Code Fails?
Automation is useful until something doesn't automate.
Hospitable addresses code-assignment failures with backup codes.
If the normal reservation code cannot be successfully assigned to a connected lock, Hospitable can communicate a backup code to the guest. Backup codes are maintained on the lock, replaced after use and are not normally shared unless they are needed.
That reduces the chance of a routine code-generation problem immediately becoming a guest-access problem.
It does not make smart locks foolproof.
Hosts still need functioning hardware, adequate battery power and the required connectivity. A backup code cannot make a dead lock respond, and property managers should still have a plan for genuine hardware failures.
The benefit is another layer between a software hiccup and a guest standing outside the property.
Does Hospitable Work With Multiple Locks?
Yes.
Hospitable allows multiple smart locks to be assigned to the same property. When guest access is enabled for those locks, the same reservation code can be applied across multiple access points.
That can work well for properties with:
a front door and side entrance
a building entrance and individual apartment door
multiple guest entrances
pool, gym or common-area access
Using one guest code across those doors is much cleaner than sending a guest several PINs and explaining which one works where.
Hospitable can also create separate operations codes for tasks involving cleaners or maintenance staff, keeping operational access separate from guest reservations.
How Much Does Hospitable Cost for Smart-Lock Automation?
If smart locks are the reason you are considering Hospitable, ignore the headline "$0" starting price and look at the plans that actually include the feature.
Plan | Month-to-Month | Included Properties | Built-In Smart-Lock Integration |
|---|---|---|---|
Essentials | $0/month | Unlimited | No |
Host | $29/month | 1 | No |
Professional | $59/month | 2 | Yes |
Mogul | $99/month | 3 | Yes |
Hospitable currently offers a 12% discount with annual billing. That reduces the effective monthly prices to $25.52 for Host, $51.92 for Professional and $87.12 for Mogul. Prices may change.
Essentials: $0/month
Essentials is Hospitable's free plan and includes core hosting tools, but built-in smart-device integration is not included.
Host: $29/month
Host starts at $29 per month for one active property and adds more property-management functionality.
It still does not include Hospitable's built-in smart-lock integration.
Professional: $59/month
Professional is the important plan for this article.
It starts at $59 per month, includes two active properties and includes two smart devices per active property. Additional smart devices currently cost extra.
It also adds features including direct booking, a fuller metrics dashboard and other tools that make the plan more useful beyond the front door.
Mogul: $99/month
Mogul starts at $99 per month with three active properties and includes four smart devices per active property.
Its bigger differentiators are portfolio-management features such as owner statements, owner portals and accounting integrations.
For a host evaluating Hospitable specifically for smart locks, Professional is the real starting point.
Is $59 a Month Worth It Just for Smart Locks?
For one lock alone, probably not.
There are smart locks and booking-platform integrations that can automate codes without adding a $59 monthly property-management subscription.
Hospitable makes more sense when you also want to consolidate other hosting work, including:
automated guest messaging
multi-channel reservation management
guest workflows
direct booking
dynamic pricing
cleaner or team coordination
multiple properties
A host running one Airbnb with low booking volume may be perfectly happy using Airbnb's direct smart-lock integration.
A host managing Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com reservations while manually coordinating codes and messages has a different problem. In that situation, Hospitable isn't simply replacing a lock app. It is connecting access management to the rest of the operation.
Hospitable vs. Airbnb's Built-In Smart-Lock Integration
Airbnb already supports direct integration with selected smart locks, so not every host needs Hospitable to automate door codes.
The better choice depends largely on how the property is operated.
Airbnb Direct Integration | Hospitable | |
|---|---|---|
Separate PMS required | No | Yes |
Airbnb reservation codes | Yes | Yes |
Multi-channel reservations | No | Yes |
Centralized guest messaging | Airbnb only | Multiple connected channels |
Additional monthly PMS cost | No | Professional starts at $59/month |
Best fit | Airbnb-only host | Multi-channel or growing STR operation |
Choose Airbnb's direct integration if:
You primarily book through Airbnb, have a compatible lock and want the simplest possible reservation-code setup.
There is little reason to add another paid platform strictly to duplicate something Airbnb already handles well enough for your operation.
Consider Hospitable if:
Reservations come from several channels, messaging is becoming repetitive, or you are already looking for broader property-management software.
Hospitable can create smart-lock codes for guests managed through the platform rather than limiting the workflow to Airbnb stays.
Airbnb's direct integration is simpler for an Airbnb-only host. Hospitable becomes more compelling when the business extends beyond Airbnb.
Which Hosts Should Consider Hospitable?
Strong fit
Hospitable's smart-lock automation makes the most sense for:
hosts using multiple booking channels
hosts with multiple properties
property managers
hosts already considering PMS software
operators creating temporary access codes frequently
hosts trying to automate both access and guest messaging
properties with several guest access points
teams needing cleaner or maintenance access
Weak fit
It is harder to justify for:
a single-property Airbnb with low booking volume
a host satisfied with Airbnb's direct smart-lock integration
someone who only wants a low-cost smart-lock app
an owner whose lock is not supported
a host who would not use the broader Professional-plan features
The question isn't really whether automated guest codes are useful. They are.
The question is whether enough of your hosting operation can move into Hospitable to justify paying for the software.
Our Take
Hospitable's smart-lock integration solves a very specific operational problem well: it connects a reservation with temporary physical access.
A guest books. A code is created. The guest receives it. The code works around the stay and expires afterward.
That is a small workflow when you have one reservation.
Repeat it across multiple properties, booking channels and turnovers and it becomes exactly the sort of repetitive work software should handle.
We would not pay $59 per month solely to automate one smart lock at a low-volume Airbnb. Airbnb's own integration is the simpler option for that host.
But for an operator already moving toward property-management software, Hospitable's smart-lock automation is a meaningful feature because it brings access, reservations and guest communication into the same system.
And if smart-lock integration is part of the reason you are choosing Hospitable, start your comparison with Professional, not Essentials or Host.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hospitable integrate with smart locks?
Yes. Hospitable integrates with selected smart locks and platforms including Schlage, Yale, August, SmartThings, Kwikset, Nuki, Igloohome and TTLock. Not every model from each brand is supported.
Does Hospitable automatically create Airbnb door codes?
Yes. Hospitable can generate reservation-based access codes for compatible connected smart locks, schedule when those codes become active and expire, and include the access code in automated guest communication.
